John grew up in Battle Ground, WA and has lived in many places including Pensacola, FL, Seattle, WA, Vancouver, WA and Iceland.
He joined the U.S. Navy as a young man and served 9 years as a jet engine mechanic on the A6 Intruder Community. While in the Navy he sailed on the USS Ranger, USS Kittyhawk and the USS Constellation.
In 1998 John saw a newspaper ad for a vacant apartment at Providence Supportive Housing. He responded immediately and was given a tour of the apartment the same day. He moved in one month later and it’s been his home ever since.
“Living at Providence Supportive Housing has improved my life,” says John. “I wasn’t in a good place before I came here, but now I have a brand new apartment that’s ADA accessible. And, I really enjoy the social community here at the house.” Since moving into his apartment he began working for the local public transportation district where he now serves on the Board of Directors.
John says the best thing about his apartment is the location and all of the nearby activities. “I enjoy fishing, live music and food at the local breweries and wineries, the list can go on and on!”
John likes to spend his free time walking his neighbor’s dogs and soaking up the sun. He also likes to visit with friends who work or volunteer at the nearby Providence hospital.
